We for sure appreciate the shortboards (9 ft and under), with their great reactivity and bringing a very agressive and modern riding style... But in another hand, we can't say anything bad about "longboard style" boards, which bring a fluid style when well done.
On the practical aspect, a bigger board in the waves meand more stability to reach the peak or wait for the waves, a faster take off and more float in general. On top of that, you can bring your Juliette on a cruise, or even the kids and friends between two surf sessions to cruise around on wave less days.
An 11' board can easily become a "one board quiver" for a 175-190 lbs rider.
